I really enjoyed my vacation and one of the best parts of it was that I didn’t watch the news even once in a three week span. Oh, I read an occasional article or news story, but usually I just skimmed the highlights.

At the same time I maintained my normal devotional life and coming out of vacation I notice I’m not nearly as stressed. In fact, I have a greater assurance that God has things well in hand. There is truth in the old song “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.” Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim…

Remember that it is when Peter “saw the wind” rather than keeping his eyes fixed on Jesus, that he started to sink when walking on the water (Matthew 14). So, if life has you anxious right now, can I make a suggestion? Turn off the news. Take the time that frees up and spend it with the Lord. Read scripture. Get on your knees. Up your participation in the worship and discipleship opportunities the church is offering, and experience His peace that transcends all understanding.
