First Presbyterian Church has called Rev. Scott Thayer to be an associate pastor. Scott will begin work in January.
The church has been working for several months to find an associate pastor to equip us in the areas of congregational care, discipleship and local mission.
Scott and his wife, Karen, who have three grown children and one son-in-law, come to First Presbyterian with a wealth of experience and a wonderful sense of calling. Scott has spent the last six years serving as the associate pastor for congregational care at his current church. Scott has experience and training in Alpha, Stephen Ministry, GriefShare, DivorceCare, Celebrate Recovery and caring for caregivers. He has been directly responsible for pastoral care, deacons, evangelism, discipleship, missions, development of community life and large-church ministry.
Scott received his M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary and earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Ministries from Talbot School of Theology. He graduated cum laude from Hope International University with a B.A. in business management, and has utilized that background as a marketplace chaplain in recent years, in addition to his church position. Much more important than any degrees or experience, however, Scott and Karen love God and have tremendous hearts for Jesus and those whom God loves.
Please pray for Scott and Karen in their transition over the coming months.
