John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Reflect

In the beginning, we heard those very same words in the very first sentence of the Bible in Genesis. And now John takes our mind to ponder once again that incredible week in history when the world began. Day 6, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…”

This is The Word that John is now writing about. In the beginning was the Word. And The Word is God, Jesus, the fullness of the Trinity has come to live among us in His very creation. He came as a baby, just the same way we all arrive into the world. Yet He was fully God and fully man. And think about it, we were created in His likeness! In John 8:12, Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. Jesus, the Word has come to live among us to show us how to live and love one another. He has come to give believers salvation and he has sealed us with His Holy Spirit. Jesus, the Word, is the best gift we and the world have ever received! The choice is ours. Follow the light of Jesus and receive life in abundance. Jesus is the reason for the season.

Pray

Oh heavenly Father, when I ponder the fact that you, the Word, God in Flesh have come down to live among us and show us how to love one another all I can say is Thank You. For I know how unworthy I am and how full of grace and mercy you are. Thank you for stepping down from heaven to lead us through the storms of life and leaving your Holy Spirit to live within us, giving us direction and salvation. We look forward to joining you in heaven one day. Amen.
