A couple’s small group has found a way to incorporate service into the life of the group.

For eight years, the group has volunteered for Open Doors, a roving homeless shelter than sometimes is located at First Presbyterian. Anticipating 40 guests for an overnight, the group works together to prepare a special hot meal to welcome them as they come in from the cold.

After meal prep, the group serves and eats dinner. A Bible study is offered afterwards, and a lively Christ-centered discussion usually occurs. “We leave the evening feeling refreshed with our hearts moved for the friends that we have met and an opportunity to pray for their needs,” one group member said. “We hope our small gift of time is a blessing to this hardy group. They are a blessing to us!”

Open Doors will be back at First Presbyterian Church the weeks of Feb. 19 and March 19. If you’re interested in volunteering to help, contact the church office at connect@firstpreshbg.org.
