Election season is raising all kinds of questions for me. The chief question is to ask what the Lord would have us do. I know lots of people who profess to be certain about the answer to this question when it comes to who to vote for, but interestingly, they don’t all agree with one another.
There are some things we can be certain the Lord is calling us to do, though, in the midst of this election. We know the Lord has called us to love each other, even in the midst of disagreement, so we can do that. We know the Lord has called us to love even our enemies, so we can do that. We know the Lord has called us to respect our governing authorities and pray for them, whether or not we voted for them. So we can do those things, too.
I could go on, but I hope you get the idea. There is uncertainty, particularly around this election, but there is also certainty. We certainly know Jesus is Lord no matter who wins and we know he has called us to love everyone. So in the midst of our questions and uncertainty, let’s focus on working out the truth we know and the truth we are called to obey.
