The Congregation of First Presbyterian Church is a vibrant, exciting, forward-looking group of people seeking to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and to play an active part in ministering to the needs of the people in the congregation, the community, and throughout the world.

Under dynamic pastoral leadership, the tempo of congregational life is quickening. The members of the congregation are responding enthusiastically as the church moves into a greater ministry of "Lifting Up Christ and Building Up People" in our community and the world.

Theologically the congregation, officers and staff are committed to the authority of Scripture and the historic truths of the Reformed faith as expressed in our Confessions. Though the church family is predominately conservative and evangelical, in a congregation of nearly 1,400 members, there are a variety of theological perspectives. The Session endorsed the Witness to Biblical Morality September 28, 1990, reaffirmed that belief Feb. 25, 1996 and April 23, 2001, and is supportive of the ministry of Presbyterians for Renewal.

The Sunday morning worship services are the focus of congregational life. Many educational and fellowship opportunities are available. Seasonal celebrations and traditional events of the church year provide special opportunities for ministry and fellowship.

The church property is located on Court Square in the geographical center of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. The sanctuary was renovated and expanded in 1980. The administration and office complex was renovated in 1991. An educational facility was completed in October, 1992 and totally paid for in November, 1996. The church also owns Mabel Memorial Chapel, a small mission in the eastern part of the city.
